LLM Selection & Benchmarking
for Socratic Tutoring Systems
for Socratic Tutoring Systems
Advisor: Prof. Aditi Kothiyal
- Identified Gemini 2.5 Flash as the optimal model — highest pedagogical score 3.91/5, fastest latency 521 ms, at $182/1K interactions
- Built a reproducible Python benchmarking harness evaluating 5 LLMs across 600 model–prompt pairs spanning 12 topic categories
- Developed an 8-criterion evaluation framework combining human rubric scoring, automated NLP proxies, and rigorous statistical tests (Friedman, Wilcoxon)
- Engineered a PII sanitization pipeline with SQLite/CSV telemetry and CI/CD automation via GitHub Actions, ensuring full reproducibility
Fairness Attacks on Federated
Learning under Non-IID Data
Learning under Non-IID Data
Advisor: Prof. Manisha Padala
- Reproduced 8 poisoning attack–defense combinations from the SoK FL benchmark, validating accuracy within 2% of published results across 4 non-IID splits
- Designed combined MPA + DPA strategies that degraded subgroup fairness by up to 15% while global accuracy remained within 1% of baseline
- Demonstrated that non-IID distributions amplify fairness harm under combined poisoning, revealing subgroup-level vulnerabilities undetected by standard defenses
- Proposed an expanded FL threat model treating fairness as an independent attack surface, complementing traditional robustness-only analysis
Indic Language Automatic
Speech Recognition
Speech Recognition
Advisor: Prof. Mayank Singh
- Built a self-supervised ASR system for 22 Indic languages using a Hierarchical Cross-Lingual State Space Network inspired by wav2vec 2.0
- Curated and preprocessed 500+ hours of multilingual audio from CommonVoice, OpenSLR, and IndicVoices with chunking and VAD pipelines
- Benchmarked IndicWav2Vec on 4 languages (Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, English), quantifying data thresholds needed to surpass current SOTA WER
